ETP Tinplate Sheet for Cans, Lids and Metal Packaging

ETP tinplate sheet is an electrolytic tin coated steel sheet widely used in the can-making and metal packaging industries. It is produced by coating cold rolled steel with a controlled tin layer through an electrolytic process, giving the material good surface quality, corrosion resistance and packaging performance.

The steel base provides strength, stiffness and formability, while the tin coating improves surface protection, solderability, lacquering compatibility and printing performance. Because of these advantages, ETP tinplate sheet is widely used for food cans, beverage cans, can lids, easy open ends, printed tin boxes, aerosol cans, bottle caps, chemical cans and decorative metal packaging.

Henan GDD supplies ETP tinplate sheets in different thicknesses, sizes, tempers, tin coating weights, surface finishes and packing methods. We support can-making factories, lid manufacturers, food packaging companies, metal printing factories and global steel distributors.

What Is ETP Tinplate Sheet?

ETP stands for Electrolytic Tinplate. It is a thin steel sheet coated with tin on both sides by electrolytic deposition. The tin coating is controlled accurately to meet different packaging requirements.

ETP tinplate sheet is designed for metal packaging applications that require a clean surface, stable forming performance, good printing suitability and reliable coating compatibility. It can be printed, lacquered, cut, stamped, welded and formed into different packaging products.

For food packaging applications, ETP tinplate is usually used together with a suitable internal lacquer or coating system according to the packed product, sterilization process and local food-contact requirements.

Main Product Types

ETP Tinplate Sheet for Food Cans

ETP tinplate sheet for food cans is used for can bodies, can ends and packaging containers. It requires stable thickness, good surface quality, suitable temper and proper tin coating to support forming, welding, printing and lacquering processes.

ETP Tinplate Sheet for Can Lids

Tinplate sheet for can lids, bottoms and easy open ends usually requires good flatness, suitable hardness and stable mechanical properties. T4, T5, DR8 and DR9 tempers are commonly selected for lid and end applications according to production requirements.

ETP Tinplate Sheet for Printed Tin Boxes

ETP tinplate sheet can be used as base material for printed tin boxes, biscuit tins, tea tins, candy boxes, coffee cans and gift packaging. A clean and smooth surface helps improve printing quality and packaging appearance.

ETP Tinplate Sheet for Aerosol and Chemical Cans

ETP tinplate sheet can also be used for aerosol cans, paint cans, oil cans and chemical containers. The proper tin coating, lacquer system and temper should be selected according to the packed material and forming process.

Customized ETP Tinplate Sheet

Customized ETP tinplate sheets can be supplied according to required thickness, sheet size, temper, tin coating, surface finish, passivation, oiling, packing method and final application.

Common Applications

ETP tinplate sheet is one of the most important raw materials for metal packaging production.

In food packaging, it is used for fruit cans, vegetable cans, meat cans, fish cans, milk powder cans, coffee cans, tea cans and other food containers.

In can lid production, it is used for top ends, bottom ends, easy open ends, crown caps, screw caps and other closure products.

In decorative packaging, ETP tinplate sheet is used for printed tin boxes, biscuit tins, candy boxes, gift tins, stationery boxes and promotional metal packaging.

For industrial packaging, it can be processed into aerosol cans, paint cans, oil cans, lubricant cans and chemical cans depending on coating and packaging requirements.

Product Advantages

Good Packaging Performance

ETP tinplate sheet combines steel strength with tin coating protection, making it suitable for cans, lids, caps and metal packaging products that require stiffness, formability and surface quality.

Excellent Printing and Lacquering Suitability

The smooth surface is suitable for printing, coating and lacquering. It helps improve final package appearance and supports different branding requirements.

Stable Formability

Different temper grades can meet different forming requirements, from deep drawing can bodies to rigid lids and high-strength can ends.

Controlled Tin Coating

Equal or differential tin coating can be selected according to corrosion resistance, welding performance, lacquer compatibility and final packaging use.

Flexible Processing

ETP tinplate sheet can be cut, slit, stamped, welded, printed, lacquered and formed according to different can-making and packaging production lines.

Custom Supply Support

Thickness, width, length, temper, tin coating, surface finish, passivation, oiling and packing method can be customized according to customer requirements.

ETP Tinplate Sheet vs TFS Sheet

ETP tinplate sheet has a tin coating on the steel surface. It offers good solderability, corrosion resistance, printing performance and packaging appearance.

TFS, also known as tin-free steel or ECCS, does not have a tin coating. It usually requires organic coating and is often used for specific can ends, crowns, caps and packaging parts.

For customers who require tin coating, solderability and traditional can-making performance, ETP tinplate sheet is usually preferred. The correct choice depends on the packaging product, forming method, coating system and market requirement.

Temper Selection Guide

T1 temper is softer and suitable for applications requiring better forming performance. T2 and T3 are commonly used for general food cans, can bodies and printed packaging.

T4 and T5 provide higher hardness and rigidity, making them suitable for lids, ends, closures and parts requiring better stiffness.

DR8 and DR9 are double reduced tinplate tempers. They provide higher strength with thinner gauge, making them suitable for lightweight can ends and packaging products that require material saving and stable rigidity.

Tin Coating Options

Tin coating weight can be selected according to corrosion resistance, welding performance, lacquer compatibility and packaging requirements.

Light tin coating is often used for products that will be lacquered or used in less corrosive environments. Medium tin coating such as 2.8/2.8 g/m² is widely used for food cans, printed tins and general packaging. Higher tin coating such as 5.6/5.6 g/m² or 8.4/8.4 g/m² can be selected for stronger surface protection or special packaging applications.

Equal tin coating means both sides have the same coating weight. Differential tin coating means the two sides have different tin coating weights, which can help match different inside and outside packaging requirements.

Surface Finish Options

Henan GDD supplies ETP tinplate sheets with bright, stone, silver and matte finishes. Bright finish provides a smooth and reflective surface suitable for high-quality printing and decorative packaging.

Stone finish has a fine textured surface and is widely used in food packaging. Silver finish provides a uniform metallic appearance, while matte finish offers lower gloss for special printing, coating or visual requirements.

The proper surface finish can be selected according to printing method, lacquer system, packaging appearance and customer production line requirements.
