Metallic coating and paint specifications should always be stated separately. A specification such as “0.45 mm prepainted coil, RAL 9002” is incomplete unless the substrate, coating mass, paint system, film thickness and applicable tolerances are also confirmed.
Prepainted Steel Coil is metallic-coated steel that is painted before being converted into a finished component. The coating process is completed continuously on a coil-coating line rather than after roofing sheets, wall panels or other components have already been formed.
The word “prepainted” therefore describes when the coating is applied: before downstream forming.
