A tinplate oil can combines a formable steel body with a thin tin coating and a closure chosen for the liquid inside. It can be developed for olive oil and other edible oils, or for suitable lubricants and coatings, but these are different packaging specifications. Tell us what you will fill, how you will fill it and where you will sell it; we can then discuss the appropriate tinplate, lining, can shape and seal.

Where Tinplate Oil Cans Fit

Edible oils: An opaque metal body shields oil from light and provides a printable surface for premium retail presentation. A suitable food-contact lining, approved closure and controlled filling conditions are needed to protect the packed oil; shelf life must be validated for the actual product and process. A rectangular body can also suit shelf display and case packing.

Lubricants and other industrial oils: A rigid can with an appropriate pouring spout can make dispensing and transport more convenient. Compatibility of the contents with the lining, gasket and seal must be checked before production.

Paints and coatings: Tinplate is also used for metal paint containers because it offers a printable, sturdy package and can be paired with a suitable opening and internal coating. Paint chemistry, solvent content, closure design and any dangerous-goods shipping requirements need separate evaluation. A can qualified for paint is not automatically suitable for edible oil, or vice versa.

Indicative Product Parameters

The entries below describe configurable options, not guaranteed stock specifications. Final dimensions, coating and performance criteria are confirmed against a drawing, sample and purchase specification.

Item Available specification route
Body material Electrolytic tinplate (ETP); grade and temper to be agreed
Shape Rectangular or round, subject to tooling confirmation
Capacity and dimensions Specify target fill volume, can size and headspace
Steel gauge Set by can geometry, stacking load and forming trials
Tin coating Examples: 2.8/2.8, 5.6/5.6 or 5.6/2.8 g/m² (per side); confirm orientation for differential coating
Interior finish Application-specific lacquer/lining; food-contact option subject to verification
Opening and closure Pouring spout, screw cap or other approved closure design
Decoration Printed artwork and exterior varnish, subject to proof approval
Validation Fit, seam/closure integrity, compatibility and shipping checks as applicable
Documents COO, raw-material MTC, applicable export license and agreed shipment/test documents

Which Tin Coating Should You Specify?

Tin coating numbers give the nominal coating mass on each face, not the total on both faces. For example, 2.8/2.8 g/m² is an equal-sided option; 5.6/5.6 g/m² provides a higher nominal tin mass on both sides; 5.6/2.8 g/m² is differential, so the drawing must identify which side faces the contents. A higher coating mass may be considered for a more demanding application, but it does not replace a compatible internal lacquer, sound seams or product trials. The right choice depends on oil chemistry, processing, storage and budget.

How a Buyer Can Narrow the Specification

1. Define the liquid and filling conditions

Share the product category, formulation or safety data where appropriate, fill temperature, intended shelf life and target market. Food-contact requirements and industrial chemical compatibility are assessed against different criteria.

2. Confirm dispensing and transport

Choose the opening for how customers will pour and reseal the contents. Agree on nominal fill volume, headspace, case packing, handling conditions and the inspection criteria for leaks and deformation.

3. Approve a sample before print production

Check the drawing, physical sample, coating declaration and artwork proof. If the can will hold edible oil, request applicable food-contact evidence for the actual contact materials and destination before commercial filling.

Illustrative Buyer Scenarios

Olive oil brand: A packer planning a gift-range oil can could prioritize a light-blocking printed body and controlled pouring. The quotation should specify the actual oil, target market, lining, closure and food-contact validation.

Lubricant distributor: A distributor seeking a practical refill pack could review rectangular handling, spout flow, gasket compatibility and transport testing before selecting a can.

Paint producer: A paint maker may need a wide opening for brush access and a resealable lid. Solvent or water-based formulations require their own lining and closure checks. These examples show specification paths; they are not claims about completed customer projects.

Export Documentation and Quality Checks

For an agreed shipment, we can coordinate a certificate of origin (COO), raw-material mill test certificate (MTC), any export license applicable to the transaction, and commercial/shipping documents. Food-contact test reports may be arranged or provided where relevant to the specified coating and market. The final document list and regulatory checks depend on the destination, packed product and order terms; please confirm these at the inquiry stage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the same oil can hold edible oil and machine oil?

Do not assume so. The interior coating, gasket, cleaning process and applicable documentation must match the actual contents and intended market.

Does a thicker tin layer guarantee a longer shelf life?

No. Shelf life also depends on oil quality, oxygen exposure, lining compatibility, closure integrity and storage conditions; verify it through filled-pack trials.

Can you print our design and provide export paperwork?

Share the artwork, destination and expected order volume. Printing, samples and the available shipment documents can then be quoted and confirmed for your project.
